Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes! I have taught loads of guitar students who had never strummed a chord before our first lesson over the years, it is the best place to start! I will take you through everything you need know to play like your guitar heroes! You never stay a beginner for long here a Guitar Lessons Peterborough.

Where are you based?

I teach all of my guitar lessons at my home studio located on Penrith Grove, Peterborough, PE4 7FQ. Click on the map to bring up our location on Google Maps! It is the perfect place for guitar lessons as it is really easy to get to and has a nice relaxed atmosphere to learn to play the guitar.

Do you teach children?

Absolutely, children of all ages are more than welcome! Half hour lessons each week tend to work best with young people under 11, with children under 5 taking a short snappy 15 minutes every week. You are invited to join us during your child's guitar lessons if you would like to sit in!

What hours do you teach?

During the week most lessons tend to be on an evening (due to people having work commitments etc) and I teach up until the latest of 8pm on these days. During the weekends the hours I teach are much more flexible and I usually teach from around 10am – 9pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

How long is each session?

The length of a session is entirely up to you. Some people have half an hour sessions and others have two hours sessions. I find that the more lessons and hours you put in the faster you will progress.

How old do you have to be to start playing guitar?

There is no age limit! You can start at 10 years old or you can start at 55 years old, it is never too late to learn. I do find that children below the age of around 10 years old do tend to find it a little more difficult, but that doesn’t mean to say they can’t do it!

What type of guitar do you teach?

I teach both acoustic and electric guitar and teach all varieties of styles i.e Pop, Punk, Rock, Blues, Jazz etc.

How often should I take lessons?

I would advise a minimum of one lesson a week in order to ensure consistent progress, but some people have one every two weeks and others have 2 – 3 lessons per week, it’s completely up to you!

What will we learn?

Lessons are goal orientated, so if you want to learn to play a couple of folk songs or learn Jazz Standards, each lesson is individually catered for the student.

Can we arrange group lessons?

Yes. Please contact me for more information.

I do not think that I have any musical talent, but would still love to be able to play!

Playing an instrument is less about talent and more about the time and work that you put in. That also does not mean that you have to practise 10 hours a day to be able to play some songs! After a few lessons you will already be able to put together chords, and strum along to some of your favourite songs.

What would happen if I miss a lesson?

That’s absolutely not a problem. Just let me know within a 48 hour period before the lesson and we can rearrange to another time that best suits you! Guitar Lessons Peterborough does have a 48 hour cancellation policy which does mean that if you cancel your lesson within this time you will still be charged the full price.
