Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes! I have taught loads of guitar students who had never strummed a chord before our first lesson over the years, it is the best place to start. I will take you through everything you need know to play like your guitar heroes. You never stay a beginner for long here a Guitar Lessons Peterborough.

Do you teach children?

Absolutely, I teach children over the ages of 10 years old and upwards. I have found from experience that half-hour lessons each week tend to work best with young people. You are invited to join us during your child's guitar lessons if you would like to sit in. I have a Standard DBS (formerly CRB Check) for your peace of mind.

Where are you based?

I teach all of my guitar lessons at my home studio located on Alma Rd, Peterborough, PE1 3AW. Click on the map to bring up our location on Google Maps! It is the perfect place for guitar lessons as it is really easy to get to and has a nice relaxed atmosphere to learn to play the guitar.

What hours do you teach?

I teach Monday to Thursday from 11am to 10pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am through to 6pm at night. These hours give my students the most flexibility to come and attend lessons at a time that suits them during the week.

How long is each session?

The length of a session is entirely up to you. Some people have half an hour sessions and others have two hours sessions. I find that the more lessons and hours you put in the faster you will progress.

How old do you have to be to start playing the guitar?

There is no age limit. You can start at 10 years old or you can start at 55 years old, it is never too late to learn. I do find that children below the age of around 10 years old do tend to find it a little more difficult, but that doesn’t mean to say they can’t do it.

What type of guitar do you teach?

I teach both acoustic and electric guitar and teach all varieties of styles i.e Pop, Punk, Rock, Blues, Jazz etc. I also teach the bass guitar for those interested.

How often should I take lessons?

I would advise a minimum of one lesson a fortnight in order to ensure consistent progress. Ideally a lesson each week works best, ultimately it’s completely up to you!

What will we learn?

Lessons are goal orientated, so if you want to learn to play a couple of folk songs or learn Jazz Standards, each lesson is individually catered for the student.

I do not think that I have any musical talent, but would still love to be able to play!

Playing an instrument is less about talent and more about the time and work that you put in. That also does not mean that you have to practise 10 hours a day to be able to play some songs! After a few lessons, you will already be able to put together chords and strum along to some of your favourite songs.

I am always keen to help to inspire my students with stories of guitarists and musicians who started here in Peterborough and went onto become internationally famous musicians. Have a read of this article to find out more about them - Famous Bands from Peterborough.

What would happen if I miss a lesson?

That’s absolutely not a problem. Just let me know within a 48 hour period before the lesson and we can rearrange to another time that best suits you! Guitar Lessons Peterborough does have a 48-hour cancellation policy which does mean that if you cancel your lesson within this time you will still be charged the full price.
